Most items in the game can be missed, but there are also a few items that players need or absolutely should steal. Some of these items are harder, if not impossible, to find in shops and can only be stolen. The only way to get this weapon is by stealing it.
The big draw for this weapon is that, up until this point, it has more materia slots than any other piece of armor. A Heavy-Duty Bracer can be found on Rude in chapter This item will increase how long a beneficial effect is working on the team. You can find this item on the Type-O Behemoth in chapter The Timeworn Talisman can be found on Specimen H in chapter To get the Champion Belt, players will need to steal it from the Grundy Bandit.
Soldier Trainees. The last thing that is absolutely necessary for players to steal is the Iron Maiden. This piece of armor has a Physical Defense, 20 Magic Defense, and unfortunately no Materia slots. The enemies that have this are in the M. There are also quite a few items that you can consider stealing that may be worth your time. Crab Wardens in chapter 5 have Molotov Cocktails , which do 90 Fire damage to all of the enemies within range.
The Airbuster in chapter 7 has an A. Programming Core , which is just an item. But this can be sold for Gil at just about any shop. Hell House in chapter 9 has Mr. Both can steal items from enemies, providing access to some rare items that are otherwise not easy to obtain. Though Steal will simply attempt to take an item, Mug will perform a physical attack before attempting to steal. Steal can be paired with Support Materia , and though most of them are not useful with the Steal ability, this can be used to add Support Materia effects to normal physical attacks if used with Mug.
The change is small, but will benefit any character. As Steal is based partly on the user's level , if a player is unsure whom to give the command to, they can simply give it to their highest-level character with a Materia slot available, or whom they would like to act slightly faster in combat. The basic Steal ability does not deal any damage, and its success rate is based on the user's level. This means that it can be given to any character.
For Mug, if the player wishes to deal maximum damage by using it as well as stealing, it can be given to characters with a high Strength stat: either Cloud , Barret , Tifa , or Cid. However, players may instead treat the damage from Mug as a bonus, and prefer to keep the enemy alive to guarantee obtaining the item. Characters with the Steal Materia can equip Sneak Glove to improve their ability.
