Well, the weather has improved greatly and the fishing likewise has showing a distinct turn for the better. The warm sunny days would be followed by nights when cold would then start to creep into the bones as the frosts arrived but the warmth would return with the rising sun in the morning when you We have up to 5 spaces available for 28th June - 5th July ' Please call for more information. We are all buzzing at the moment with the news that a new lake record has been landed.
It is a mirror weighing in at a staggering 71lb 4oz and becomes only the second carp of over 70lb we have had caught at Le Moulin du Mee. The happy angler is Paul Lamb from essex who arrived with personal be Question Email Address.
The lakes are set in 40 acres of woodland and wild flower meadows and are a haven for wildlife. With a maximum of 8 anglers allowed at any one time, the lake has never been pressured which has resulted in superb catch results week after week. The lake has just over stocked carp with weights ranging from low 20's to mid fifties. In April of we saw our first home grown 60 in the form of a common weighing in at 61lb. With the growth rates we have experienced in recent years we could well find that see's far more very big carp than we have estimated above.
There are also some monster Cats aproaching lbs and put on a phenomenal fight. The small lake, Poppy's, is around 4 acres and is stocked with around small carp ranging from mid doubles to 25lb with an additional bigger fish to be stocked prior to the start of the season. These carp will all be in the 25lb - 40lb bracket. There is also an outside eating area where meals are served should you wish to take advantage of the highly recommended food package. The food package comes highly recommended and is served at the outside eating area.
Online availability is not possible on this venue. Once again we have seen a week begin in grand fashion only to slowly become more and more challenging as the week progressed.
No doubt the weather played an important part in that with the cooler, carpy weather giving way to rain and then hot days followed by cold nights. That all said the lads….
The lads on this week enjoyed much better fishing conditions that we saw last week and accordingly enjoyed some better fishing. With odd warm days interspersed with some rain, some cloudy days and a solitary rainstorm meant that although the fishing showed a considerable improvement there was no consistency to when a run would occur…. A couple of pictures I took last night. A wonderful late summer night that seemed to good to miss so find below one picture of the lake taken from Redmire Legends BBQ swim and one at the back of the Millhouse.
As many of you will be aware I have been away for the best part of a month and although Jimmy has been updating the catch reports in the Le Moulin du Mee page on Facebook the blog has been rather neglected over that period. I shall attempt to put that right with this post…. The week just completed turned out to be another really productive session for the three anglers. I am leaving for the airport shortly so will rely on Jimmy to post a more comprehensive….
It is a murky, wet morning and I walk around the lake early dressed in fleece and waterproofs much as I do in the winter. It is strangely silent with only the patter of rain to be heard along with the occasional croak of a frog forlornly hoping for a late bit of excitement……sorry lad,…. This is normally done in the evening or just after breakfast. This swim produces big fish and the seventy seems to like to hang around here.
I find it is best to fish this swim with one bait placed a rods length off the island and a couple of rod lengths out from the bank, another bait half way across the total distance between bank and island and the other 20 yards down the side.
There is another swim with conditions very similar to Steps known as Sanctuary. This is a big swim with many features. It is the last swim on this side of the lake and commands a lot of water.
To the right are a number of over hanging trees and a May at the end where the carp like to stay sunning themselves. Regarding bait placement here I like to opt for 3 rod lengths off the island and towards the far side of the treeline where there is a small bay. Keep the pellet going in and the big old carp will soon cruise in mop up the freebies. On the other side of the lake the first swim is near the carpark and this is a smaller version of sanctuary.
This is worth fishing if no one is in sanctuary, as you are really fishing the same water but with south westlery winds blowing in. The fish favour a small bay to your left which is full of snags and lilies where the owners will allow you to do a bit of stalking. The next swim along on this side is the island swim which does loads of big fish. There is an island to the left of you where the fish like to sit about three rods lengths off.
This is a good open water swim allowing you plenty of scope for your middle and right hand rod. Quite often this swim produces when the weather is cold. Simple rigs are all that is needed with blowbacks my favorite.
